'Goth' Fairie Tattoo

Description

This is a tattoo design modified from one I found by a tattoo artist named Kate O'Donnell on Tattoodles. My wife really liked this tattoo but there some aspects that she wasn't wild about, so I decided to take a stab at redoing it and making it my own. I modified just about everything here, from the body shape (including the addition of the hands and feet) to the dress to the wings (I changed them to butterfly wings from the original dragonfly-esque style). This one is even a modification of a modification; my first one was a more girly-girl version with girly colors and hair.

I'm actually quite happy with this design. While I didn't come up with the original concept, I'm thrilled with how well my version turned out, except for maybe the dress. I don't have a tattoo, and I'm not an ink expert, so someone who is please tell me: is it possible to ink a gradient like on the wings and have it turn out well? This one is even more complex than the other, so I'm not sure how well it would work.

Done completely in Illustrator 10.

I like the wings. I do think you should study female anatomy or use a model whilst drawing, though. Women (even skinny women) are still curvy! I did a little edit here [link] don't take offense, I'm just trying to help you produce work to your fullest potential!
